Our Story
“Chi va piano, va sano e va lontano.”
Sal’s dad is from the small mountain-top village of Montauro (CZ), and his mom’s family primarily originates from various locations in Campania — the region of the Neapolitans. We’ve been to many other places, too. Here are some of them.
“Piano piano” is a phrase that expresses the Italian desire to live slowly — to live long, to live well. It epitomizes a truth of the Mediterranean lifestyle that’s often overlooked by its romanticized presentation in pop culture.
Great things take time.
Our shop is the culmination of our years of experience traversing the Mediterranean and bringing it into our home. Every product we sell is something that we would actually use.
We made this shop for people like us — families and friends that care about food and stories, whose favorite part of the day is sitting down at the table together, talking over a home-cooked meal.
